Story

The film has Jayaram as Balu, a Master in Business Administration, who is amidst losses after floating an event management company. He is in such deep debt that he has to enter his own house after dark like a thief to avoid bumping into his many creditors. It is in this dismal situation that he is forced to take care of Soorya (Sheela), who is madly in love with him and has fled from her home before her marriage to be with him. Balu’s only company in the city is a film production manager Kichu Manjaly (Suraj Venjarammoodu), who arranges their stay in the hotel room allotted for a new heroine of the movie. Confusions galore follows and Soorya is forced to act as the new face and soon she is selected as the heroine of the new film ’Cindrella’ by director Siddharth, which is under production. The director changes her name to 'Anamika' and in order to stay close with her, Balu takes the role of her personal makeup man. After that the couple manages to escape one difficult situation after other, until things take a severe spin just before the intermission. The basic storyline bears similarity to several films from the past, like Ram Gopal Varma's Rangeela, for instance. There are some nice moments in between but mostly, the story goes along on highly predictable lines and in a disturbingly slow pace.Kunchacko Boban and Prithviraj appear doing cameo roles, without making much of an impact to the story. With a rather ordinary script, the film develops in the absence of a definite direction or focus. The actors involved seem to be disinterested in the proceedings after a while. The visuals by Azhagappan are fine but the music by Vidyasagar doesn't help things a bit.The climax is where the film falters big time, and the court scene which goes on and on, isn't easy viewing material. There is an alarmingly high number of lowbrow moments here that lets the film just drift away from the viewers. The script very rarely runs deep, and the characters and the situations are jumbled up further with each passing minute.Makeup Man offers Jayaram the actor, nothing new and this is the Jayaram whom we have seen in quite a lot of films before. Sheela delivers a convincing performance and so does Siddiq. Kunchacko Boban and Prithviraj are around as well, in cameos.Anyway the movie was able to make a huge Initial collection due to th MultiStar effect.

Plot

The film starts with a short introduction to the history of Portuguese exploration in the in the Age of Discovery to India, referring the legendary landing of explorer Vasco da Gama on 20 May 1498 in Calicut, the kingdom ruled by Zamorins of Calicut. The typical Primary School teachers narration (by Malayalam actor K. P. A. C. Lalitha) is initially accompanied with Google Image Search on "Vasco da Gama", followed by stills from his journey and moving images at the end. The meeting of Vasco da Gama (Robin Pratt) with Zamorin with traditional hospitality, and the failed interview to produce any concrete results is also depicted. Then the celebrations of the greatest discovery till in Lisbon is shown (Vasco da Gama's expedition was successful beyond all reasonable expectation, bringing in cargo that was worth sixty times the cost of the expedition). In a party, da Gama is seen talking to his young son, Estêvão, who will later turn crucial character in the film.

The scene changes to a club in present day Goa, where we see two young men, Krishna Das (Prithviraj) and his friend, dancing. These two young men are running a music troupe and are completely unaware of the history or heritage of their land. From the agents of a multinational mining cooperation, Krishna Das knows that his ancestral property in Kerala leased out to a N. G. O. by his late mother is rich in minerals and is free to be sold as the lease period has lapsed. The company offers him a large of money as advance. Krishna Das is told that there some problems exist, that he has to convince the people running the N. G. O. for this transaction. When he reaches the plot, he is kidnapped by some tribal (who will have to vacate their lands, if the mining begins) men to cave deep in the forest, and where he meets their chief Thandachan (Arya). Thandachan explains to him that he is the descendant of Chirakkal Kelu Nayanar, and Thandachan resumes the narration.

The narration continues with Portuguese activities in India, and effects of Colonization on the Malabar Coast. In 1502, Gama commanded the 4th Portuguese Armada to India, a fleet of fifteen ships and eight hundred men, with the object of enforcing Portuguese interests in the east. On reaching India in October 1502, Gama started capturing any Arab vessel he came across in Indian waters. On his way to Cannanore when he had reached the northern parts of the Indian Ocean, Gama waited for a ship to return from Mecca and seized all the merchandise on it. The Portuguese chases the pilgrim ship down, which surrenders rather quickly, probably imagining that its master and they had enough money to ransom it off. But Vasco da Gama shrugs off all the offers.

The Nair (Nairs were fierce warrior clans in Malabar) general of the king of Kolathunad, Chirakkal Kothuwal (Arya), sents a Brahmin negotiator and his own son, Kelu, to the Portuguese ship São Gabriel for negotiations on Mîrî. But, da Gama rejects all peace talks and barbarously cut off the Brahmin's ears and sews ears of his dog on the same spot. He then ordered the hundreds of passengers be locked in the hold and Mîrî, and which contained many wealthy Muslim merchants — to be set on fire. It took several days to finally go down completely, and general of the king of Kolathunad, Chirakkal Kothuwal storms to São Gabriel to rescue his son, Kelu. But, on this charismatic attempt Chirakkal Kothuwal loses his life to the Portuguese, and only Kelu escapes devastated by his fathers loss. Vavvali, a Tamil Muslim boy, takes Kelu with him to his dwelling, and treats him as his own younger brother. Kelu forms an Urumi, specially made with the left over ornaments of the dead women and children of a Mecca Ship, Miri. He takes the oath that he wants to kill da Gama.

Then it shows a foreshadowing of Kelu (Prithviraj) and Vavvali (Prabhu Deva) as adults hunting rabbits in a forest somewhere in Kolathunad. Where they are confronted by some strangers trying to abduct Bala (Nithya Menon), the princess of Kolathunad. Kelu and Vavvali save the princess, but they are subsequently captured by the soldiers of Kolathiri, accompanied by the heir apparent, Bhanu Vikraman (Ankur Khanna) of Chirakkal. They are charged with attempted kidnap of the Princess and keeping foreign weapons such as pistol. Originally the pistol belonged to the real abductors, but the king's judgement was the execution by elephant. On the way, Princess Bala comes and reveals that these men are in fact saviors, not attempted abductors. He joins hands with the king to jointly kill vasco da gama and the remaining part forms the rest of the story
She lands in Saudi Arabia and many surprises await her, starting at the airport itself. She is forced to wear a burqa at all times, as part of the dress code of the country. She is subsequently exposed to a rigid culture and a slavery-like vocation and is taken up under a sponsor to work for him as a maid.
Aswathi wandering in the desert for help

Aswathi had to face numerous troubles - sexual abuse and battery in the sponsor's house. Ashwathy is accompanied by Usman, who actually brought her to all the miseries. However, he indulges in a sexual affair with the Indonesian maid there and gets caught and is kicked out of the sponsor's house. Aswathi helps the other maid to escape the premises and in turn is tortured as punishment.

The story follows Razak, who tries to trace Aswathi who had mysteriously disappeared during an attempt to escape torture. On the parallel, we see Aswathi running into some good and bad people, eventually culminating in a deportation. After entering into much more troubles, she reaches Razak, who was actually in a search for her. He inquires her about the complete story. He brings miscreants in front of justice and eventually helps Aswathi to leave the damned place.
Plot

Kalidasan (Lal) works in the state archaeological department and is a food lover. His only companion is his cook, Babu (Baburaj). Manu Raghav (Asif Ali) is Kalidasan's nephew who comes to stay while looking for a job. Kalidasan has a boring life until he gets a mis-dialled phone call from Maya (Shweta Menon), a dubbing artiste living with her friend Meenakshi (Mythili). Maya rings to order a Dosa but gets Kalidasan instead. Their conversations do not go well at first, but a long-distance romance develops due to their common interest—cooking and food. Kalidasan is a born gourmet while Maya is indulging in culinary activities in memory of her dead mother. Kalidasan starts to let Maya into the secrets of baking with a multi-layered cake called "Joan's Rainbow".

Kalidasan and Maya both get the jitters before their first face-to-face meeting, as each becomes conscious of their own physical appearances, and both decide to send younger and better looking substitutes instead, Manu and Meenakshi. Neither Manu nor Meenkashi realise that they are both substitutes; Manu thinks that Kalidasan is really in love with Meenakshi, while Meenakshi thinks that Maya is in love with Manu. Manu and Meenakshi attempt to sabotage their older counterpart's relationship by telling Kalidasan and Maya that the people they met were unsuitable. Kalidasan and Maya both try to forget each other, but eventually they decide to call each other and meet anyway. Manu and Meenakshi decide to run away, and towards the end they discover the truth. Kalidasan and Maya meet each other and their relationship begins.
Plot

In an unknown location in the Nepalese Himalayas, a young monk (played by Siddhartha) is about to be crowned the Rimpoche of the monastery, when a gang of black magicians led by an unnamed character (played by Puneet Issar) kidnap him. It is revealed that the leader of the black magicians wishes to make a human sacrifice of the Rimpoche in order to attain invincibility. The other monks in the monastery also understand that the Rimpoche's saviour will arrive from across the Himalayas to rescue him from the clutches of the black magicians. In the meantime, the young Rimpoche manages to escape from the clutches of the black magicians and runs away to Kathmandu.

At the other end of the subcontinent, in a small village in Kerala, Ashokan (Mohanlal) is an unemployed youth who, along with the other members of his club, whiles his time away competing with his cousin Appukuttan (Jagathi Sreekumar) and his club in a series of trivial competitions. Appukuttan finds himself on the losing side of every such competition, adding to his insecurity complex, which leads him to suspect Ashokan of having an affair with his, Appukuttan's, fiancee Damayanti (played by Urvashi).

When an astrologer predicts to Ashokan's mother, Sumathi (played by Sukumari), that Ashokan is likely to commit a murder if he remains in Kerala, Ashokan is bundled away to Nepal to stay with his uncle Captain (retired) Krishnankutty Menon (M. S. Thripunithura), whom he hasn't met since childhood. Unbeknownst to Ashokan, Appukuttan flies into Nepal beforehand and establishes himself in Krishanankutty Menon (Kutty Mama)'s house, masquerading as Ashokan. Ashokan is cast out onto the streets of Kathmandu, where he meets the Rimpoche and forms a friendship with the young lad.

Appukuttan attempts to connive his way into marrying Kutty Mama's daughter, Ashwati (Madhoo) - a researcher into Nepalese traditions and black magic at a university in Kathmandu. But Ashokan, with the Rimpoche's assistance, manages to cast doubt into the mind of Kutty Mama and win over Ashwati.

Ashokan and Ashwati then witness one of the black magician's minions kidnapping the Rimpoche. Upon following the kidnapper, they end up confronting the black magician himself. In the ensuing melee, the black magician grievously wounds Ashwati and blinds Ashokan, and leaves the two of them to their deaths in the forest. Both of them are rescued by the adivasi tribe tasked with protecting the Rimpoche's monastery. Ashokan is then told of how he is the Chosen One, and is trained by an adivasi teacher to overcome his blindness and become a warrior tasked with rescuing the Rimpoche.

In the meantime, the jealous and suspicious Appukuttan follows Ashwati and Ashokan into the forest and is captured by a tribe of adivasis who torture him.

Ashokan then ventures into the black magician's hideout, rescues the Rimpoche, and brings him back to the monastery. The Rimpoche then, aided by an ailing old monk, restores Ashokan's eyesight. As the solar eclipse nears, the monks begin the coronation of the Rimpoche. The black magician rushes to the monastery to kill the Rimpoche before he is crowned. But Ashokan stands in the black magician's way, and in the climactic fight, kills the latter.

Ashokan then discovers that Ashwati is not dead as he had previously feared. Appukuttan makes a final appearance, trained as a warrior by the adivasis who captured and tortured him previously. In the comical fight that ensues, Appukuttan is beaten up by Ashokan.
Plot

The story begins in 1954, when the French, the colonial rulers were packing off from Mahe, a coastal town in North Kerala, after 230 years, leaving behind remnants of a cultural history. Those, who considered themselves as belonging to Francophone culture, jumped on to the first available vessel to France.

Alphonso ignored the repeated pleas of his wife, Maggi to leave the land, where they no longer "belonged". The new social order became more, suffocating as Alphonso's earnings (as a "magician" of sorts) dwindled. The arrival of their son, Michael, from France revived hopses of a life without poverty, but Michael went back, leaving behind counterfeit gold and plunging the Alphonso family in deeper debts. Daughter Elsie's affair with Sasi became a local scandal.

Alphonso decided to leave, but the decision hung in the air. Alphonso looked around in the realisation that he cannot tear himself away from Mahe and the river to which he belonged. Mahe was within him even in a society, where he had no reason for the sense of belonging. In a way, the film reveals what is now described as authentic "ethnicity".
Synopsis

An anti-corruption drive led by Disha, a Gandhian social organization leads to the resignation of Krishnan Nambiar (Biju Pappan), a state minister. Susan Mary Thomas (Padmapriya Janakiraman), an upcoming English novelist is the main brain behind Disha, who also is involved in several woman empowerment programs. Just after his resignation, Krishnan Nambiar is found brutally murdered at a private tennis court. The chief Minister (Kollam Thulasi) assigns Appan Menon (Suresh Gopi), the investigation charge. Considered many to be a semi-eccentric for his way of behavior, Appan Menon is relieved from State Civil Supplies Corporation, where he was working as director. Appan Menon regularly calls up Vaiga (Vimala Raman), his wife at his residence in Madurai and gives a complete account of his day to day activities. Alexander Mekkadan (Siddique), who had begun the investigation of Krishan Nambiar's murder couldn't cope with the style of Appan Menon. Susan May Thomas is called up by Appan for preliminary questioning, but finds nothing suspicious. Up on calling Vaiga, in evening, she instructs Appan to be a bit more soft towards Susan and asks him to go and meet her to apologize. Appan reaches Susan's home, and is quite impressed by her activities, but disagrees with her non-violent movements. In mean time, Sulaiman Rauthar, a political leader is found dead. Apppan doubts both murders to be linked. Police team arrests Durga Dasan (Manoj K. Jayan), a former naxalite who claims himself to be a messenger of Goddess Durga. But up on questioning, it is revealed that he has got no links with murders. Susan, one day makes a visit to Appan's house and is shocked to find out that Vaiga is dead long back. She, with the help of Sahadevan (Chali Pala), Appan's personal assistant, gets his personal diary, through which tries to know more about him. Appan, son of a police superintendent in Tamil Nadu police, had a pale and colorless child hood. His father Vishwanatha Menon (Suresh Gopi), who was a strict follower of British army discipline tries to impose it on his son as well. Appan joins police after his education with gold medal. But just after the death of his father, he married Vaiga, whom he silently loved since his teenage days. Appan is appointed as the superintendent at Madhukarai. A ryot spreads through the village and 16 innocent villagers are brutally massacred. Appan finds out that Balasingam is brain behind the violence. His ambition to set up a Special Economic Zone was opposed by the villagers, who were feared of getting their land acquired. In retaliation, Balasingam wiped out the villagers to ease up the acquisition. Appan Menon arrests Balasingam and his accomplices. One evening, Kartha, Sulaiman Rauthar and Krishnan Nambiar and Kurian Vargeese (Mohan Jose) arrive at his home and demands a negotiation. Appan snubs them by refusing to accept any sort of negotiation. In a few minutes a group of thugs enter his residence and goes on rampage. In the violence, Vaiga is murdered. Appan develops a psycho disturbance, in which he feels the presence of Vaiga with him. After reading his diary, Susan approaches Dr. Sreenivasan Iyengar (Lal),a psychiatrist for further details. Dr. Iyengar explains about Appan's visit to him just after the incident. He revealed to Dr. Iyengar that to get justice for Vaiga, he had killed Balasingam and is planning to killed the rest of the goons. Susan is shocked to find out that Appan himself is behind the murders of Krishnan Nambiar, Sulaiman and Kartha. Susan reaches out Alexander Mekkadan and passes out the information. Mekkadan launches a hunt for Appan, but he successfully flees from the nets. Appan reaches out at Kurian at his guest house. Kurian explains that Koshi Abraham Koshi (Saikumar), a high profile NRI businessman is the master brain behind everything. Appan kills Kurian and reaches out Koshi Abraham Koshi. He kills Koshi in the presence of the children of the 16 villagers of Madhukarai, whom Koshi had killed. The film ends by showing Appan witnessing a violent protest led by Susan Mary Thomas.
Plot

Beena(Amala Paul), a program producer with NDTV 24x7 is in her ancestral village for doing a television program. She wants her fiance to meet her grandmother, who has just discharged from hospital. Beena, the daughter of K.P.Haridas, who died a few years back is not in good terms with her mother Ratnam, over her second marriage. Ratnam also happens to visit the house at the same time. There she meets Kuttimalu, a middle aged lady, who was once a house maid in her teenage days. Kuttimalu is welcomed by grandmother with the same warmth that she enjoyed long back, and she now informs that her daughters are now well settled and are leading a happy life. Ratnam is also affectionate towards Kuttimalu, who had once had an affair with Haridas. In th night, while arranging the old books of K.P.Haridas, Ratnam comes across the snaps of Kuttimalu, which he had taken in his college days. She hands them over to Kuttimalu, which takes her back to the old days. The story switches to late seventies, when Kuttimalu (Archana Kavi) had arrived in the house as a housemaid along with Appukuttan, her cousin and her grandmother. Kuttimalu succeeds in winning the heart of the mother of Haridas within no time. She was an innocent village girl, who always found fun in sharing secrets with Ammini (Rima Kallingal), another girl of her age. Ammini informs her about the myth of Neelathamara (blue lotus). According to believers, if they offer a one ruppee note at the temple pond and prays deeply to the god, the flower will blossom the next morning and his/her wish will turn into truth. The arrival of Haridas Kailash, a final year law student adds more colors to her life. He succeeds in alluring Kuttimalu in a short span, which she believes is real. She fails to understand that its was just fun that Haridas is looking for. Her prayer at the river pond results in blossoming of Neelathamara (blue lotus), which takes her to cloud nine. But the news of engagement of Haridas to Ratnam comes in as a shock, which breaks her down mentally. She slowly realizes that Haridas was never serious in his affair with her and tries to over come the grief by silently serving Ratnam, his new wife. Ratnam, one day comes to know about the affair between them, and when asked, Haridas replies down so casulally, which makes her go berserk. Ratnam orders Kuttimalu to leave the house, which she accepts silently. She is taken home by Appukuttan, with whom she got married. Now years have passed and Haridas is no more and both ladies have matured enough in their lives. The film ends with Kuttimalu once again with full heart preparing to take care of octogenarian mother of Haridas.
Soon it is revealed that Gopi Krishnan is a corrupt assistant town planner using a government vehicle to come on holiday in Tamil Nadu during his duty hours. As his driver (Suraj Venjaramood) takes him back to his station in Kerala he has an altercation with protagonist Sukumaran (Mohanlal), whose identity and profession are not yet revealed.
Later Sukumaran is seen at the town planning office trying to get a building permit, and meets Vasudevan (Nedumudi Venu), who is also having difficulty with building permits. As the film progresses, the audience comes to learn that Sukumaran is not the simple citizen he seems, but a vigilance officer trying named Nandhakumar to arrest Gopi Krishnan in a corruption case. There is also a sub-plot involving the child custody battle between Nandhakumar and his wife Meera (Sameera Reddy).
Finally after catching Sunny, the third attempt succeeds (though there is confusion over the evidence and some thugs attempt to murder Gopi Krishnan while he is in police custody). However Nandhakumar loses his court case against his wife and has to give up his daughter. Plot

Paappi Appacha is the story of a father and son, Mathayi (Innocent) and Paappi (Dileep). They live like friends and they get into all sorts of mischiefs in their village, Ithirikkandam. Annie (Kavya Madhavan) works as a teacher in a local school and Paappi is in love with her, though Annie does not like him. Paappi's mother (KPAC Lalitha) and younger sister Mollykkutty (Manju Raghvan) also like Annie very much and wants her as Paappi's wife.A businessman named Manikkunju (Suresh Krishna) comes to the village, which creates a lot of problems. Meanwhile Annie, with support of Shashankan Muthalali (Ashokan) and fellow school colleague Dasan maash (Rajeev) stands against Paappi in Panchayath election, wins the seat and becomes Panchayath President.

Annie then gets a marriage proposal. Hearing this Paappi goes to Annie's house who see him jumping to catch a glimpse of the proceedings. The would be groom tells he expects a positive response from Annie and leaves. Later she gets a call from the would be groom's mother who abuses her as her son was hit black and blue by Paappi. Annie, furious about this, goes to Mathayi's house and gives a piece of her mind and Mathayi starts to doubt Paappi. Paappi angry about this, acts rough to Annie during a school function and in a fit of rage accepts that he trashed her marriage proposal. Mathayi slaps Paappi and a crack is formed in their relation. Things got worse when the school run by Mathayi's family is burned down and Mathayi completely disowns Paappi thinking he is the culprit.

In the second half of the movie we can see Paappi trying to survive on his own along with attempting to give Mathayi a hard time. Finally, Mathayi who is cunningly supported by Shashankan Muthalali falls for a trap set by Paappi and is forced to sell Mariya's (KPAC Lalitha) land. But Paappi foils that plan also by setting up an ancient treasure discovered from that plot, ending in the archaeological department taking over the land. The City market once run by Paappi and Mathayi together doesn't function the same anymore and Annie who had earlier taken a diary from Paappi regarding the plans he had for the Panchayath if he wins the election, uses a ploy of a Farmers' Co-operative Society buying the market items from farmers and selling it giving the profit to the farmers. She shares this idea with Dasan maash who is also excited about this.

Mathayi and Shashankan while walking on the roadside, drunk, are attacked by Manikkunju and another person with a sword. Mathayi is injured while Shashankan escapes as the neighbours hear the commotion and comes out. Police try to catch Paappi suspecting his hand but Paappi escapes from their clutches. He also finds out that Annie is kidnapped. We see then Annie captured by Manikkunju and in a struggle she tries to escape and finds Dasan maash and asks for help. Manikkunju arrives and turns out that he is Dasan maash's business partner. Dasan maash reveals that Paappi and Mathayi are doing business on his former land which was actually bought by Mathayi long time back when Dasan Maash's, original name Sivadasa Menon, father had to sell it to them due to his extravagant lifestyle. Dasan maash tells Annie that he likes her and even though he knows Annie loves Paappi, her body will belong to him and tries to rape her. But Paappi comes to the rescue and saves the day. Meanwhile Mathayi also arrives learning the truth that it was Dasan maash who disrupted Annie's marriage proposal and also put fire in school building.
Even with his successful and wealthy life, he is unhappy with his name and wants to become a celebrity. He is called Ari ("rice") Pranchi by everybody, citing his ancestors' business. He wants to change his image from Ari Pranchi to something great and is ready to spend any amount of money for it. The movie deals with how Pranchi tries to get a good name and what changes that brings to his life.

The story starts with Francis talking to Saint Francis of Assisi about his own life. It starts with a short flashback to a quarrel between Francis and Jose (Siddique) over their lady love Omana (Khushboo) when they were in school. Francis had an affair with Omana but he had give her up because of Jose's tricks. Now Jose and Omana are married and are leading doctors in the city.

The story progresses with several humorous incidents when Francis, a.k.a. Ari Pranchi, tries to get a good name for himself. He fights a local club election but is defeated by Jose; he then arranges a felicitation for the Oscar award-winner Gafoor Chekutty, but instead of being seated in the front row on the dais is asked to give up his seat for a Padmashri recipient; he helps the needy but fails to get noticed for it; he tries to write a biography, etc. At last he decides to grab a Padma Sri award because that may help in changing his name from Ari Pranchi to Padmasree Pranchi. He bribes officials with 1.5 crore to get a nomination for the Padma Sri, but the corrupt politicians dupe him.

Dejected, he withdraws into his house when a pretty young woman named Padmasree (Priyamani) comes to invite him for an inauguration ceremony. Both become good friends and Pranchiyettan falls in love with her . He helps Padmasree prevent her Tharavadu from being sold off, but is unable to express his love for her and she returns to Mumbai.

Now Pranchiyettan decides to help his friend Antony Mash's school. The problem is that the school fears that it will not get a 100% result due to a single student called Paulie (Ganapthy). Paulie's parents are poor and cannot help with his studies. Pranchiyettan brings the boy to his home, and arranges for a special tutor, Pandit Deenadayal (Jagathy Sreekumar), to teach him. Pandit Deenadayal discovers that the boy has immense talent but lacks concentration due to some personal problems. He tries to teach him using modern techniques like a Rubik's Cube, etc., but the boy in turn mocks him by asking several questions, and performing some gimmicks that the teacher cannot do. Eventually the boy fails in the SSLC examination. Annoyed, Pranchiyettan goes to the boy's home to drop him off, but finds out several unknown facts about the boy. The remaining part of the movie deals with how the boy changes Pranchiyettan's life.
